Small Solutions Strategy
Collaboration
Small Solutions teams will partner with your local government and non-governmental organizations to bring technology to your developing communities. All projects are planned and executed in collaboration with country organizations and institutions. Using shared knowledge we will plan for technology use that best incorporates cultural character of communities. These community assessments will maximize the time and funding resources and increase the realistic likelihood of program success.
Current Projects
We are engaged in active project planning the Sister City organizations and other community based non-profits in Africa to bring small solutions to their communities.
Small Solutions teams have applied for the OLPCorps Africa Summer Stipend. Each team is composed of university students who will spend the summer working in the community introducing XO in the context of structured learning activities. One team plans to collect stories in the local language to be used to preserve the local cultural heritage and as learning material for the school curriculum.
Pilot Programs
Small Solutions will work with your community to create a pilot and establish in a center where the community can become engaged by trying out technology such as email, short message systems, digital audio and video, customized internet browsing, and the XO for school children. All projects include the youth populations as full participants in their future through the availability of information and its application to learning and community development.
Teacher Training Project Pilot will be designed by our team with the local educators and school administrators. In the first year the pilot program for schools will provide a proof of concept in more than one target school.
Success
The success will be determined by community commitment, perseverance and collaboration. This project will result in the project having significant impact and can be replicated effectively. Local community members will direct the management and sustainability of the project. Our team brings specialized knowledge and training into the community, which will benefit the entire community,
Each community project selected is assessed for potential success factors. Consensus between the educators, youth, and community leaders will be established as part of the project agreement. The greatest risk pertains to the geography of communities in which connectivity is obstructed by the topographical area/region/village. In this event wireless relays can be used in order to enable connectivity. At sites where electricity is an issue, wet will utilize the latest solar technology with battery or generator backups.
